Ingredients

For the Brisket:

  • 3 lbs beef brisket
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • ½ cup BBQ sauce

For the Sandwich:

  • 6 brioche or sandwich buns
  • ½ cup coleslaw optional
  • 6 slices cheddar cheese optional
  • Extra BBQ sauce for serving

Instructions

Prepare the Brisket:

  • Pat the brisket dry with paper towels.
  • In a small bowl, mix brown sugar, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and chili powder.
  • Rub the spice mixture evenly over the brisket.

Cook the Brisket:

  • Slow Cooker Method: Place the brisket in a slow cooker, add beef broth, and cook on LOW for 8 hours or until tender.
  • Oven Method: Preheat oven to 300°F (150°C), place brisket in a roasting pan, cover tightly with foil, and bake for 6-7 hours.
  • Smoker Method: Smoke at 225°F (107°C) for 6-8 hours, using hickory or oak wood chips for flavor.

Shred and Sauce:

  • Once the brisket is tender, transfer it to a cutting board and shred it using two forks.
  • Mix in BBQ sauce and let it rest for 10 minutes.

Assemble the Sandwich:

  • Toast the buns for extra flavor and texture.
  • Add a layer of cheddar cheese (if using) and pile on the shredded brisket.
  • Top with coleslaw and extra BBQ sauce if desired.

Serve and Enjoy:

  • Serve immediately with fries, pickles, or a side of baked beans.
